NEW! ADOPT A CYPRESS COMMUNITY CAT
NEW! ADOPT A CYPRESS COMMUNITY CAT
Stephen Schoonmaker has left Cypress College as of June 2024. He leaves behind this awful legacy. I leave this up as a historical reference.
Dr. Stephen Schoonmaker is the Vice President of Cypress College. He oversees employees, including the Facilities and Maintenance Departments. Mr. Schoonmaker is paid $250,000/year.
All of this chaos and animal cruelty is happening under his watch. I have reported the cruelty many times, met with him a couple times and NOTHING is being done to stop the employees from constantly harassing the cats, trapping the cats and making them vanish.
Recently I spoke with an employee in the maintenance facility. They told me they know of employees that are harming the cats. I asked if they would be willing to go on record and report it. They said, "No. I'm afraid the retribution would be that I would be the person fired". I asked if they know of any employees that have killed cats and they replied, "I plead the fifth".
Imagine being paid a quarter million dollars a year and overseeing a workplace environment so hostile that employees are afraid to report other employees that are committing felonies while at work. Let that sink in for a minute...
Some of these employees are openly hostile toward me. I've reported this and don't see any change. After reporting Tim, a hostile employee who recently drove his work cart while quickly accelerating to within a foot of me to try to scare and intimidate me because I confronted him for destroying the cats water bowls. The next day, before 10 AM, the water dish was destroyed and missing again. I know that Tim isn't alone is destroying the cat's water dishes but Tim obviously doesn't fear any consequences for what he's doing and other employees are afraid to go on the record for what the hostile employees in this department are doing. These hostile employees are able to behave like this because for two years there have been no consequences for them personally harassing me for reporting what's going on in the maintenance yard and simply trying to treat the community cats with compassion and empathy. I have begged the school to create a spay/neuter/release program.
Recently Tim called Orange County Animal Care and reported that a gray mother cat that had just had kittens had abandoned them. This was a lie he told to an Orange County Animal Care officer, a law enforcement officer. The gray mother cat didn't and wouldn't abandon her kittens and I watched her searching through the maintenance yard for her kittens. Tim gets away with this because of leadership that turns a blind eye to what's going on. It's hard to see the reality of what's going on in the maintenance yard from the air conditioned offices on the 3rd floor of the Administration building.
Tim and other employees harass me while I am on public property. I'm not breaking any laws, and I'm being harassed by people being paid ~$80k+/year. They are also harassing cats and destroying their water dishes while on the clock and being paid with our tax dollars. If they have been ordered to stop, as was reported to me by the head of Cypress Safety, Craig Lee, they should have been fired for insubordination long ago. I would think committing animal cruelty while on the clock would be enough to be fired but this hasn't happened and I've been reporting it to the school for about two years. This administration is complicit in the animal cruelty committed by their employees to these cats. Shame on Cypress College.
On Friday, May 17, 2024 Vice President Stephen Schoonmaker directed the Cypress Safety to begin harassing me. They showed up immediately after I pulled in to feed the cats. Normally, they ignore me entirely. Drive right by and don't even acknowledge that I'm alive. But tonight minutes after I pulled in Officer D Wollenep pulled up and told me that I could no longer park my car and feed the cats alongside the fence and that I would have to purchase a daily pass and park in a parking stall. He also said I couldn't park in the staff parking at the west side of the maintenance yard. I have NEVER PARKED IN STAFF PARKING! He pulled up seconds after I arrived and gave me a $37 ticket for parking in a loading zone on Friday night at 6pm. NO DELIVERIES ARE BEING MADE AT NIGHT. PURE HARASSMENT DIRECTED BY VP SCHOONMAKER.
