Dr. Stephen Schoonmaker is the Vice President of Cypress College. He oversees employees, including the Facilities and Maintenance Departments. Mr. Schoonmaker is paid $250,000/year.
All of this chaos and animal cruelty is happening under his watch. I have reported the cruelty many times, met with him a couple times and NOTHING is being done to stop the employees from constantly harassing the cats, trapping the cats and making them vanish.
Recently I spoke with an employee in the maintenance facility. They told me they know of employees that are harming the cats. I asked if they would be willing to go on record and report it. They said, "No. I'm afraid the retribution would be that I would be the person fired". I asked if they know of any employees that have killed cats and they replied, "I plead the fifth".
Imagine being paid a quarter million dollars a year and overseeing a workplace environment so hostile that employees are afraid to report other employees that are committing felonies while at work. Let that sink in for a minute...
Some of these employees are openly hostile toward me. I've reported this and don't see any change. After reporting Tim, a hostile employee who recently drove his work cart while quickly accelerating to within a foot of me to try to scare and intimidate me because I confronted him for destroying the cats water bowls. The next day, before 10 AM, the water dish was destroyed and missing again. I know that Tim isn't alone is destroying the cat's water dishes but Tim obviously doesn't fear any consequences for what he's doing and other employees are afraid to go on the record for what the hostile employees in this department are doing. These hostile employees are able to behave like this because for two years there have been no consequences for them personally harassing me for reporting what's going on in the maintenance yard and simply trying to treat the community cats with compassion and empathy. I have begged the school to create a spay/neuter/release program.
Recently Tim called Orange County Animal Care and reported that a gray mother cat that had just had kittens had abandoned them. This was a lie he told to an Orange County Animal Care officer, a law enforcement officer. The gray mother cat didn't and wouldn't abandon her kittens and I watched her searching through the maintenance yard for her kittens. Tim gets away with this because of leadership that turns a blind eye to what's going on. It's hard to see the reality of what's going on in the maintenance yard from the air conditioned offices on the 3rd floor of the Administration building.
Tim and other employees harass me while I am on public property. I'm not breaking any laws, and I'm being harassed by people being paid ~$80k+/year. They are also harassing cats and destroying their water dishes while on the clock and being paid with our tax dollars. If they have been ordered to stop, as was reported to me by the head of Cypress Safety, Craig Lee, they should have been fired for insubordination long ago. I would think committing animal cruelty while on the clock would be enough to be fired but this hasn't happened and I've been reporting it to the school for about two years. This administration is complicit in the animal cruelty committed by their employees to these cats. Shame on Cypress College.
On Friday, May 17, 2024 Vice President Stephen Schoonmaker directed the Cypress Safety to begin harassing me. They showed up immediately after I pulled in to feed the cats. Normally, they ignore me entirely. Drive right by and don't even acknowledge that I'm alive. But tonight minutes after I pulled in Officer D Wollenep pulled up and told me that I could no longer park my car and feed the cats alongside the fence and that I would have to purchase a daily pass and park in a parking stall. He also said I couldn't park in the staff parking at the west side of the maintenance yard. I have NEVER PARKED IN STAFF PARKING! He pulled up seconds after I arrived and gave me a $37 ticket for parking in a loading zone on Friday night at 6pm. NO DELIVERIES ARE BEING MADE AT NIGHT.
PURE HARASSMENT DIRECTED BY VP SCHOONMAKER.
On Friday, May 17, 2024 Vice President Stephen Schoonmaker directed the Cypress Safety to begin harassing me. Officer Wollenberg confronted me immediately after I pulled in to feed the cats. Normally, they ignore me entirely. Drive right by and don't even acknowledge that I'm alive. But tonight minutes after I pulled in Officer D Wollenberg pulled up and told me that I could no longer park my car next to the fence and feed the cats alongside the fence and that I would have to purchase a daily pass and park in a parking stall. He also said I couldn't park in the staff parking at the west side of the maintenance. After feeding this small colony of cats in parking lot 6 I went to feed a couple more cats that someone had abandoned and have been living on the west side of Building 34.
I've been feeding them for months. I even spayed the female because she got pregnant and Cypress College doesn't have a sane policy about how to handle cats. I have always parked in the "Deliveries Only" spot which isn't staff parking and because it's after hours and there are no deliveries. This seemed to work for months until I called Cypress Safety on an employee for harassing me driving his work cart at me and just missing me by a foot. So, it seems that VP Schoonmaker is turning the table and is having his Cypress Security harass me while I'm on Cypress College property. It wasn't enough to have Tim Noriega, the guy that sets the traps and traps cats off the record harass me. Now retribution is a Cypress College policy coming directly from Vice President Stephen Schoonmaker's office.
Officer Wollenberg is writing this ticket at 6:00 PM on Friday evening when school is out and the school is preparing to allow the parking lot to be turned into a flea market and foul Valley View Street with trash blowing across four lanes of traffic all day long and trample all over the landscaping of Cypress College.
Officer Wollenberg pulled up, opened his car door, didn't say a word, and started writing a ticket and wouldn't say a word while he wrote the ticket.
The interesting thing about this targeted harassment is that in the first parking lot there was only one other car and that car did not have a student id parking pass on the windshield nor did it have a day pass. Officer Wollenberg wasn't the least bit concerned about that vehicle. I took photos of the car and the windshield to prove that it didn't have a parking pass. When this harassment case goes to court, this will be evidence of the targeted harassment by Cypress "Safety" officers.
I had to go get water and a water dish because the maintenance workers placed steel guards under the gates in the northern lot today so that a water dish for the cats couldn't be pushed under it. This is how petty VP Schoonmaker has become. On most days Tim destroys the dishes. I have on tape workers admitting to destroying water dishes when it it 105 degrees out and a litter of kittens was depending on this water. I have video tape of Tim stealing the water dishes so the cats can't get a drink of water. Because THIS is the policy of Cypress College. I reported this person to the President's office and they did NOTHING!
Tim, the worker shown below had stolen the water dishes every day last week and this week. But he left one behind today after the steel guard was put in place. Certainly to taunt me. But I was able to remove it. I went and got another gallon of water and a water dish. VP Schoonmaker is clearly complicit in the harassment of the community cats of Cypress College now. HIS employees in the maintenance department and in the "Safety" department are working hand in glove to harass me and to harass the cats. Without a doubt, Schoonmaker is now behind the harassment of me personally. These "Safety Officers" didn't take it upon themselves after more than two years of watching me feeding these cats to start writing me tickets.
Perhaps it was the head of Cypress Security, Craig Lee, who told me the other day when students were protesting against the genocide in Palestine, that he had to go deal with "Pro Hamas protesters." Maybe he's the genesis of this harassment of me but he doesn't do anything without the approval of VP Schoonmaker.
Officer D. Wollenberg is just doing his job which is whatever VP Stephen Schoonmaker and Craig Lee dictates. $250k a year and this is how VP Schoonmaker runs Cypress College. Dr. Scott W. Thayer should be ashamed of himself for overseeing this.

This is Tim Noriega. Tim works in facilities management for Cypress College when he isn't sneaking around harassing cats out in Parking Lot 6.
I've known Tim for a couple years. He has been trapping cats since I met him. At first I thought this was sanctioned by the school since he seemed to have the support of the department and was openly doing it. I have worked with him to contact Orange County Animal Care to remove cats from the college because he presented himself as in charge of the cat removal, removal being the operative word. I've advocated for a trap/spay-neuter/release (TNR) program from the beginning but the school has allowed the cats to have litter after litter of kittens. I've told them over and over the first thing that needs to be done to bring a cat colony into control is to stop the endless litters of kittens but Cypress College has stuck with their misguided approach of allowing cats to have three or four litters of kittens a year and incessantly complaining about the cats and kittens on campus. I've fed well over a 100 kittens out in parking lot 6 because Cypress College misguided policies. This has led to extreme violence against the cats by Cypress College employees and death of cats by people that work in the maintenance department. As well as harassment of me.
This photo of Tim Noriega was taken Tuesday, May 7, 2024 after I confronted him for dumping out the water container for the cats. He lied to me and claimed that it was leaking and he was just cleaning up the area. I know that's a lie because the water container was brand new the night before when I placed it, replacing the one that was taken from the day before. It was clear the water had just been dumped out because there was a concentrated wet spot, not a spot that would be created by a leak that had been leaking for 12 hours. In the blog area of this website is a photo of a pile of smashed water dishes left behind by Cypress employees that have to unlock the gate, go inside the enclosure, and smash the water dishes. The employees, paid by Cypress College, while on the clock, go out of their way to destroy the cats water dishes. Another water dish destroyer, Brian who drives a lawnmower for the college, smashed water dishes on a days that were 105 degrees and a young litter of kittens was depending on it for their survival.

A few minutes after this photo was taken and Tim was ranting at me, I was walking away, he got in the motorized cart you can see over his left shoulder, gassed it and came to within a foot of me while passing me to try to intimidate me. I immediately called Cypress Safety to file a complaint for harassment by Tim.
Shortly after this happened another maintenance worker drove his work cart slowly out into the parking lot looking directly at me, giving me the evil eye, then spit toward me with disdain on his face. Then another employee (I think his name is Micheal) slowly drove around the parking lot and circled back around me and passed closely by giving me a dirty look. This is all comically stupid but that's what I'm dealing with out in Parking Lot 6. Comically inane people being paid by Cypress College harassing me because I have the audacity to feed the cats and advocate for an industry standard Trap-Neuter-Release program, the only kind of program that works with community cats.
I explained the situation to the Safety Officer (Anne-Marie?) what had happened and that immediately after he zoomed by me I yelled at him and he stopped the cart and started yelling at me again then went over to where another employee was standing who had observed the incident.
I told the officer he was going to go 'get his story straight' with the other employee and lie about strafing me with his work cart and that he had just told two lies to me already. One, that he was just cleaning up the water dish because it was leaking and two, that I had dropped off cats at this location and the third lie he will tell is that he didn't strafe me with the cart. I told the officer the water dish was just inside the fence and she could go look at it to see that it wasn't leaking if he hadn't broken it because it appeared he has stacked it on top of some others and it didn't appear broken. She chose not to look at it. I came back a couple hours later and noticed that all the water dishes had been removed from the area so I'm thinking Tim realized his lie may be questioned and came back to remove the evidence before it was collected by Cypress Safety, but prove me wrong.
I have a lot more to write about Tim Noriega's trapping operations. At one time because it was so obvious a rogue employee was engaging in a nefarious operation in the maintenance yard, Cypress Safety retrieved the two cat traps. They have since been returned and very recently have been active. Blog post coming soon.
